Microsuction

Microsuction.png

The safest way to remove wax from the ears. It is generally painless, but some people may experience minor pain or discomfort. It takes up to 30 minutes for both ears and prolonged instillation of wax softening drops is not always necessary prior to the procedure.

The best method for dewaxing ears with a perforation of the tympanic membrane (ear drum), a mastoid cavity and discharge.

COMPLICATIONS.

  • Short term muffling of hearing.

  • Tinnitus also short lived, due to the noise of the suction.

  • Vertigo/Dizziness, Usually, short lived; clears by the end of the procedure and does not recur. It is due to the stimulation of the inner ear.

  • Trauma to the ear canal with minor bleeding

  • Perforation of the tympanic membrane in untrained users and where the patient jumps or suddenly moves their head while the procedure is in progress. It is very rare. The perforation usually heals spontaneously within 4-6 weeks. Occasionally it may need to be repaired if it does not heal and the client develops recurring discharge.
